New Moon Sagittarius 12 December 2023 – by Flavia

Giotto tarot welcome back. We are heading towards the darkest point in the year, which is also the beginning of the return journey towards the light. Optimism and enthusiasm for the future, is the fire that burns within. The stage is set for big actions. Big concepts and new life philosophies will emerge with this new moon, which is also the last new moon of 2023. The New Moon takes place on 12 December, 2023, at 23:31 GMT, and at 20 degrees and 39 minutes of Sagittarius. And Jupiter, the dispositor of the new moon is about to station and turn direct. We can look to future with idealism and hope after a period of reviewing and revisiting our beliefs regarding abundance, pleasure and security in life.

So we are planning big changes, first happening in the abstract sphere of value and context – Jupiter represents youth, vigour and fertility – before taking practical steps in realising them. In the spring sign of Taurus, the sign of earthly gifts, Jupiter will help us manifest in material terms those lofty spirited desires. The Knight of Cups brings messages of love, creativity and desire. We see fire coming out of a cup flanked by snakes. It’s a healing potion that is activated during this inceptive moment of the new moon. Sagittarius being a fire sign and representing life targets and the quest for a unifying purpose is in focus.

The intensity is easing and the drama of the previous months is subsiding as the King of Cups follows the Knight of Cups. We become dreamy, tell stories and want to relate to others. It is Venus in Libra as well as the two strong cup tarot cards that point to a big focus in relationships, emotions, people and otherness. With the Hierophant all of those themes around our life are blessed. Sagittarius is supremely enthusiastic and big with optimism. He’s represented by the Hierophant as a healer. Once again a sign that Jupiter going direct will be blessing us with a favourable positive influence. This is at the root of our experience during the lunation and will inform developments as the cycle moves on to new things in the future. We don’t know the outcome yet but powerful benefic forces to advance momentum are set in motion, especially in themes unity, of coming together with others and our own purpose.

The cards with The Knight of Cups, The King of Cups and the Hierophant, show us that there is a decidedly masculine energy about despite all the watery feelings and emotions. So we better prepare for outward action and energy driven towards movement in the way we interact with others. There will be adventure and expansion as we going to be feeling more generous and hopeful. We could find guidance from someone very different to ourselves, or we could be The Hierophant to others, a spiritual authority or healer, but we are not going to be standing idle. Change will accelerate and magnify. And soon we are going to see results in all sorts of areas of our lives that seemed dormant or stagnant, socially and in private. The return of light is on its way.
