The card for our journey this week is Maria/Mother Mary from The Oracle of the Goddess deck. In the card we see Mother Mary in her guise as the Lady of Guadalupe, standing on a crescent moon, holding her hands in prayer position in front of her heart. She is wearing a golden crown, and a blue, gold-lined cloak and an orange-red dress. Golden rays are spreading from her aura and creating a shield of protective energy around her. There are three roses, red, peach and yellow, in front of her.
The astronomical and astrological connections of Mother Mary encompasses her being the Queen of Heaven, and she is often painted standing on the moon as her celestial companion. She is also called the Star of the Sea, Stella Maris, and sometimes depicted with a five-pointed star, which may be a reference to the transit pattern Venus creates in the sky. Throughout history mother Goddesses have been revered as the primordial creators of life, and Mother Mary joined this tradition which is researched but still not well-understood. She has a mystical connotation as the Virgin Mother, and possesses miraculous healing power from giving birth in this state. Her astrological sign is debated, perhaps she was a Virgo or a Scorpio, both signs containing longevity and healing, which enriches her status as the supreme celestial mother.
Mother Mary brings a message of deep acceptance and healing of ourselves and of others. We can find a sense of peace within us when we realise that we can accept others just the way they are, even if we don’t share their view of life. By freeing ourselves from others opinions we can give the best gift to everybody involved, the freedom to just BE. More so, even if the heart is not prominent in this image of Mother Mary, it does not mean it is not of significance. The illuminated heart is a signature of Mother Mary, radiating compassionate healing to everybody who comes into her presence.
Accepting the Queen of Heaven as a guide, will bring gifts from and to the heart, and initiate Venusian realisations of deep healing, in an area of your life which needs it most. This may happen as a surprise and its affect will stay for the remainder of one’s earthly life.
We are now three days post-Spring Equinox, with the Aries zest refreshing and charging us with new and forward moving energy. The longer days will bring us a sense of new beginnings once again, urging us to change our set ways with the arrival of spring. Mother Mary’s presence is supporting the transit into the new astrological year, and she will show us a gentler way to proceed during Aries season. She reminds us that we can take that which we need because it nourishes us and in turn we can leave old and outdated habits which drain our presence.
A helping item on our journey into spring is petrified wood, a delightful crystal which is created when a tree has completely transitioned to stone through the process of permineralization. This means that all the organic materials in the tree are replaced with minerals, usually silicate, such as quartz. The tree retains its original structure, and features such as tree rings are visible, creating a tree of rock. The presence of iron, manganese and copper can give petrified wood a variety of colours, from brown and beige, to dark green and red.
The energy of petrified wood is freeing, boundless and comforting. Petrified wood removes heaviness and allows for a lighter energy to enter our lives. It activates the third eye and can ignite visions which are profound, granting us access to other realms, where we can travel back and forth in time. Because petrified wood has been transformed from tree to stone, it can help us to transform and solidify ideas which have gotten stuck. Petrified wood is excellent for starting anew in any area of life, its lightness will provide relief and release us from the past, and help us to soar into the future.
Meditation to free yourself from old patterns and receive new energy
For this meditation, lie down in a comfortable and quiet place. Take a few deep breaths and relax. Feel very calm and safe.
Imagine that you are standing at the edge of a beautiful, lush forest, with very tall trees. You decide to walk into the forest, following a natural path which has formed from previous visitors treading the land. After a while you come to a clearing, and there is a large boulder at the centre of the clearing. You walk to the boulder and feel its strength with your hand, it feels electric and grounding. You realise it is a huge piece of petrified wood, a tree trunk which has fallen over in ancient times. You climb on top of the petrified wood, lie down and make yourself as comfortable as you can. You look at the tall trees surrounding the boulder, following the length of the trunks with your eyes, gazing up into the treetops where glittery sunlight creates enigmatic shapes. It feels very comfortable and safe to rest here.
After a while you feel a very strong and calming energy emanating from the boulder of petrified wood. Your feet and legs begin to relax, and your arms and hands start to feel heavy against the rock and you doze off for a while. Then you can feel the energy of the petrified wood beginning to enter through your hands, making you feel safe and secure. You feel the energy travelling up your arms and into your heart chakra where it gently cleanses this area. Then the energy of the petrified wood is travelling down to your solar plexus, your sacral chakra, root chakra, the knees and the feet, where it further grounds you to the earth and the energy of Mother Mary. Then the energy rises up from your heart chakra to your throat chakra, your third eye, your crown chakra and then above, to the celestial and cosmic spirit of oneness.
You can sense the illuminated heart of Mother Mary in all your chakras and in your aura, and you feel very comforted. It feels as if all your separate soul, body and mind parts are being locked into place. You are whole.
Stay resting in this cleansing and calming energy for a moment. Tune into the vibration of the petrified wood and notice any messages you receive.
After a while you feel that you have received the healing you need, and you can feel you are back in the present moment. Take a deep breath and slowly open your eyes. Say thank you for the messages and the healing received.
After the meditation, journal about the below questions:
How can you connect to your own inner sacred mother?
Make it your task for the next few weeks to clutter clear your living and work space with the intention to break through old habits and to welcome new energy into these areas.
You can repeat this meditation anytime you feel you want to break away from old habits and patterning which don’t serve you on your life path anymore.
