We have entered enfant terrible season. Preserve your strength, hold on to the dream. We might be at a low point at the beginning of February, 2022, but action is imminent. It will bring inspiration and harmonisation in the long run. Everything is in Saturn’s signs, including the Sun and the Moon. Personal planets go direct and gather speed. The outer planets are cruising forward. Momentum is with us. A reminder that hard times and hard work is on the menu, keeps us disciplined and engaged, and with a cluster of planets in Capricorn, things are also serious. A new moon in airy Aquarius points to mental energy overdrive. The New Moon is happening on the 1st February, 2022, at 12 degrees and 19 minutes of Aquarius, and at 05:45 am, UK time. This date coincides with the Chinese New year too. The powers are pushing for complete newness in every direction.
Aquarius is not a cardinal sign pointing to initiatory themes and new beginnings, but a fixed sign with a retaining energy. Aquarius is trying to hold on to that which exists, while removing us from the group mentality to a more unique and personal narrative. It can be isolating, cold and lonely, sometimes eccentric, in a way that encourages ingenuity and inventiveness. Within the status quo there is the seed of the rebel, the nonconformist, the iconoclast.
The status quo and its own negation might as well be represented by the Queen of Pentacles. This is not an ordinary or vague established order, or subversion of it. We have the Queen of Pentacles, who is a business woman, disciplined and focused. She is successful and has tremendous power. An overachiever, you might say, as while sitting on a throne she’s surrounded by a lush natural environment, full of wealth and fertility symbolism. That’s how she’s depicted in the Rider Waite tarot. Normally, she’s holding a large pentacle, and leaning towards it, she’s looking at it. Here, in the Dante Tarot, she’s holding the enormous pentacle, or coin, close to her heart. She’s materialistic, yes. And in control. Let’s be clear, she’s not sentimental, or romantic in any way, though she demonstrates a heart on her crown. This is a rather complex and mysterious Queen of Pentacles. She tells us, that this is the time to detach from emotions, separate from the group, hold on to our own authority, and keep our eye on the prize. She’s wealthy, but not exuberant. We should follow her example of keeping our feelings in control, not overreach our goals, or attempt to go too far and too fast for gains and comforts, accolades and ceremonies of acknowledgement. There is deceit all around demonstrated by the flute and open bag on the floor (this often representing gossip). A clear head will be our strength. We need to preserve our assets with purpose and single mindedness. She’s also peculiar for the instruments of distraction from goals are on the floor, disregarded. She holds different cards and coats of arms in her hands. An ingenious, busy, multitasking, but stable and materially focused person. She’s both Saturnian and Uranian in character, just like our new moon in Aquarius. We are asked to tap into those energies in order to succeed in future.
It will not be easy. We are going to need to find the way forward to harmonise with others to create meaning. The 8 of Cups is group energy at its best. There’s nourishment and support. And there is strength in numbers. We can’t be an individual away from the whole community, and there can’t be a community without all these individuals coming together in a common cause. It’s the time when we realise things are not about us. There is a bigger picture. Everyone benefit from this situation as they bring different skills and knowledge to the table. Everyone looks content and happy, yet they are different in their own way. The Cups are identical but the creators are not. Our common values matter in this very renaissance arts and crafts interpretation of the 8 of Cups. That’s how our individuality flourishes. This is an ideal Aquarius construct. The total sum is larger than the parts. Yet, this is something that has completed its purpose. And ultimately, we are going to have to find new ways to do things, more creatively, more fulfilling and more expansive. It is a new moon beginning that looks to the past for stability, and innovates for the future in order to overcome limitations. This is an incredibly productive new moon, if not an enthusiastic or full of excitement one. The energy is cautious and deliberate, serious and technical.
But conflict and mental energies will be powerful, and the theme of deception runs through the month in various manifestations. Sometimes accidental, sometimes intentional. In the 7 of Swords, it is reinforced in the field of communication that can be misleading, words not speaking the truth, secrets that are exchanged and moved between nefarious players, decision making that lacks clarity. But as the month progresses, secrets and devious deeds will be exposed and revealed to face judgement. Action will be swift and decisive. With Mars exalted in Capricorn, there is focused will power and purposeful strength, endurance, perseverance and discipline. Mars in Capricorn gets things done. Venus is also direct in Capricorn and has good dignity. With the new moon in Aquarius, she has the task to negotiate a positive outcome for all. In the 7 of Swords, ultimately, there’s no getting away with wrong doing. But war is unavoidable. In its different expressions Mars wants to fight. The drive to conflict and aggression will be difficult to harmonise in our own lives and the mundane world.
We have pioneering energies to start something that can stay for the long term with the new moon of 1st February in Aquarius, or to remove ourselves from situations that we have outgrown and are in effect damaging, and we have the will power and discipline to achieve it. This is the time to fight for what is right, detach from the ego and find purpose in communities and groups without losing the self. This lunation’s traditional ruler is Saturn, and its more recent rule is Uranus. So one way or another, we have reached the seventh sky. Something positive will come out of saying: no. We will need to cut and detach in order to gain. It’s a month of negation, and yet, of practical progress. Events will move fast and grounded awakening is in the cards for us.
