Everything at a standstill? Everything ready for action? Yes. It’s the new moon in Libra. Balance will be going both ways. The pendulum will swing for harmony and strife in the same beat. We enter a new season. Colours are changing. Temperatures are dropping. Excitement for what is ahead of us is palpable. Energies are powered for love and relationships. We are looking for value and aesthetics in the sign of otherness. The new moon is happening on 25 September 2022, at 02 degrees and 48 minutes of Libra, and at 21:55 GMT.
Libra is Venus’ masculine domain, let’s not forget that. In Libra she’s cerebral, doing deals, attracting others to her sphere of influence, negotiating, signing contracts, creating partnerships, making commitments, delegating how to find pleasure, and always contacting others to help her out fulfilling her purpose. She knows what she wants and she will get it, she’s not just hanging around. Her decision-making cuts like a knife. But always charming and trying to negotiate her way rather than demand with violence. She’s determined that her values will prevail and others will come around to her way of thinking. For her to find pleasure, others do matter. She’s not going it alone. In this spread, we see a lot of masculine energy making the point of signifying action, and alluding to us going after what we want, rather than sitting back and receiving what comes to us. Yet, there is no movement. It’s a picture of a stubborn attitude to holding the ground. Standing firm.
This might seem confusing for a new moon in a cardinal sign that is all about beginnings and starting afresh. But we are entering the slow, darker season of the year, when the sun is in fall. Our power is going within and preserving our gains, our authority, our identity, our position in life.
The Hierophant, the Page of Wands, and the King of Pentacles are posing up-right and static. They are dominant figures of tradition, passion and worldly goods. Similarly, all the great Gods of astrology are in retrograde movement at the point of the new moon holding the ground, and revisiting situations from the past. Pluto, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus and Jupiter are going over the past, reworking old projects, rethinking ideas, contemplating and introspective, going within. Regeneration needs more digging.
Certain things are over and done with as we are starting something new. We are now in autumn in the northern hemisphere, spring in the south. A new season has started but the Hierophant reminds us that traditions do matter. We might be involved in a formal situation that requires us to follow a certain protocol and adopt specific rules already established by others. The idea is to stick with it. That’s where the power is. That’s where success will come from. That’s the way forward.
This new moon in which Mars in Gemini trines Saturn in Aquarius, both friendly to the sun and moon in Libra, holds with it energy and longevity. Anything we start now in terms of projects, planning or relationships is infused with robustness and the will to act, directed and channelled with purpose and ambition. It might be an idea or it might be a decision, a communicating strategy or a social project, a political or business partnership. All areas of civilised life are influenced by it.
And we need the Hierophant with his attachment to old structures and regulations as a base, given that we are not quite sure at this stage what to do and how to perform towards our purpose. Fairness is important in the balance of things between us and others. We are not going to get it right the first time round. And in fact we might not even have a clue what we are doing but we are doing it anyway. We are driven more by passion and inspiration than actual knowledge and understanding of the situation and what is required by us in order to reach our goals.
Alternately, we might be the Hierophant ourselves, conservative and traditional, set in our ways, in possession of higher knowledge, but in grave need of new ideas, cheerfulness, excitement and that joie de vivre that the Page of Wands represents. And we find it.
So it is a balancing act between the mature aspect of ourselves and a youthful sense of excitement. It’s the duality of the Hierophant and the Page of Wands that is at the inception of everything that happens during the new moon in Libra. Creation of meaning will come from the interaction of solid structures within institutions or rituals on one hand, and passion for social advancement of progressive ideas of fairness and justice on the other. Beauty too. Aesthetic beauty that represents goodness and comes from ethics. As we go deeper into the season these abstract guiding ideas will manifest within the physical environment. The Page of Wands is associated with the simplicity of the element of fire, and the fact that whatever the passion is for, it has not been actualised yet. By contrast the Hierophant, is all there. It’s complex, it’s established and it represents a multi-layered moral state of being. We are leaving the ego behind for something greater.
The successful interweaving of the two will lead us to a future that we can be proud of. And the King of Pentacles is indeed very proud of his achievements, confident in his abilities, secure in his material condition. He is a leader. He is someone who can create wealth and abundance in the real world. At the end of all the Libra mental engagement, we have a practical outcome that we can count on. The energies are in the social domain and we are great partners with purpose in it.
